Construction Technology Manager / Field Surveyor Job Summary This field-focused leadership role oversees construction technology, surveying/layout control, and model-to-field data workflows. The position partners closely with project teams and field crews to standardize tools, improve accuracy, and reduce downtime through training, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement. Core Functions
Perform field surveying and layout using robotic total stations; establish and maintain control points
Deploy and support construction technology platforms, machine control systems, and digital workflows
Train field personnel and verify the accuracy and quality of measurements and deliverables
Key Responsibilities
Lead the field construction technology program, including setup, maintenance, troubleshooting, standardization, and continuous improvement
Establish, verify, and maintain surveying/layout control, including benchmarks and control points; ensure jobsite control integrity
Manage machine control systems and field technology platforms to maintain crew productivity
Develop and maintain project data, including control networks, surfaces, and linework; prepare and distribute field-ready data
Convert design and model data into field-ready formats; review outputs for constructability and coordinate with project teams to resolve discrepancies
Maintain file and data management standards, including naming conventions, version control, validation, distribution, archiving, and closeout documentation
Provide training and ongoing support to field crews, supervisors, and project staff on best practices and efficient workflows
Qualifications Required
Minimum 3 years of experience in construction layout/surveying, machine control, or construction technology (or equivalent experience)
Proficiency in construction data processing software and preparing field deliverables
Strong knowledge of field control practices using robotic total stations, including horizontal and vertical accuracy verification
Experience with structured file and data management systems (naming, version control, validation, archiving)
Working knowledge of model-to-field workflows
Ability to train and support field teams
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to job sites; primarily field-based role
Preferred
Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Experience with construction layout and machine control platforms
Familiarity with as-built documentation and project closeout processes, including coordination with design or modeling teams
Work Environment
Primarily field-based with on-site support responsibilities
Frequent travel to job sites, including early starts and occasional extended hours
Outdoor construction environment with regular walking and equipment handling
